Late summer, just before the harvest, is a big time for farming shows and conferences across the Midwest. The Farm Progress Show, the largest outdoor farm show in the United States, will be taking place August 27th through 29th in Decatur, Illinois. The show originated in 1953 with 75,000 visitors. Today, the show attracts over 300,000 visitors from across the United States and the world. The show takes place on over 640 acres of farm ground. The show features the most recent state-of-the-art information and technology available for today’s farmers.
There are over 600 exhibitors at the event showcasing the latest information on crop chemicals, safety equipment, newer farming techniques-such as cover crops, seed information and more. There will be livestock handling demonstrations, rural-life programs, entertainment, children activities, arts, crafts and much more. In conjuncture with the event, country artist, Chris Cagle, will be performing on Wednesday, August 28th at the Richland Community College. There is also tractor, harvester and combine demonstrations, and a special “Ride’n’Drive” event that allows farmers to test ride trucks and UTV’s from leading manufacturers. AKE Safety Equipment will be featuring the benefits of the STOP-FYRE fire extinguisher, the World’s BEST Fire Extinguisher.
The 3rd Annual Shootout Tractor Pull, sponsored by Great Lakes Hybrids and Farm Progress Show, will also take place during the Farm Progress Show at the Macon County Fairgrounds. The tractor pull will be August 26th and 27th and is one of the highest attended events of the tractor pulling season. There is a separate admission fee for the tractor pull event.
Farm Progress is a part of Penton Agriculture publishing, the largest agricultural information business in the United States. The group publishes 18 state and regional town publications including a variety of farming magazines. They also produce four major farm shows throughout the year: Farm Progress Show, Husker Harvest Show, New York Farm Show and Farm Progress Hay Expo. Farm Progress offers an online source for farmers to get the latest crop prices and technological information via Farm Progress America.
